One Helluva Ride...
Bikers from all over, celebrities, and former Wish Kids uniting on May 1st to celebrate the remarkable life of Make-A-Wish founder Frank Shankwitz
Local organizers expect hundreds of motorcyclists and visitors to gather in Prescott, AZ on May 1st to honor the life of one of the “10 Most Amazing Arizonans”, Frank Shankwitz, a Creator and Co-Founder of the Make-A-Wish Foundation who recently passed.
The Prescott, AZ City Council voted on April 27th, 2021, to recognize Frank's many contributions by declaring May 1st Frank Shankwitz Day. In addition to his efforts with Make-A-Wish, Frank Shankwitz was a board member on several other charities, including U.S. Vets, The Wounded Blue, and Level UpSeattle. Frank was a U.S. Air Force veteran, had a long and distinguished career in AZ law enforcement. Frank was an author of several books including “Wish Man” and the children's title "Wishes Won't Wash Dishes". Frank was also widely loved and respected in the biker community.
"Through good times and bad, we loved each other. It’s no surprise our Lord took him - he was a very special human being." - Kitty Shankwitz
The Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo Arena will host arriving bikers and other visitors with a day filled with food, drink, music, and tributes.
Those who can’t attend can post a message of support or make a donation to benefit a number of charities selected by the Shankwitz family.
"Ten years ago, I was just a 16-year old kid fighting Medulloblastoma cancer, when Make-A-Wish got involved and granted my wish of going to Hawaii with my whole family," said former Wish Kid Anthony, now 26 years old, "Having my wish granted gave me the strength to keep fighting. I'll be in Prescott on May 1st to honor Frank's memory".
